CORFU VILLAGE PROPERTIES
WHAT'S NEARBY KALAMI

Dimitri’s Restaurant is only 50m away from our properties in Vlachatika, just below the village on the coast road overlooking Kalami. On the open-air veranda you can dine looking out over one of the best views on the island. They serve a combination of excellent Greek and Continental cuisine and have a substantial wine list. If you do not wish to dine out the restaurant will also prepare food from their menu for you to take home to your property.

KALAMI is without doubt one of the most picturesque bays on the island of Corfu. It is famous for once having been the home of the writer Lawrence Durrell who once lived at the White House on the beachfront, the area was the inspiration for many of his books. Surrounded by olive groves and cypress trees this small coastal village offers both tranquillity and lively local entertainment in an unspoilt, typically Greek location. Suited to both couples and families it is not too quiet or lively and retains much of its old traditional charm.

The centre of the village and beach are also only minutes away from Vlachatika and can be reached by road or on foot via several pathways off the main coast road. It has a pretty shingle beach and its waters are lovely and clear making it perfect for snorkellers and swimmers as well as those who enjoy lazing on the beach. You will also find watersports down in the bay and walkers will also love Kalami with its many coastal walks through its lush scenery.

The resort has 3 waterfront taverna’s where you can dine day and night serving fine Greek cuisine and fresh fish daily, one being as mentioned above the White House which still stands today. You will also find 3 supermarkets and 2 bars plus 2 tourist offices where you can arrange excursions, an exchange, car hire and boat hire. It is not by any means overdeveloped though can provide you with all you will need during your stay.

Surrounding the small resort there are also many other fabulous waterside taverna´s nearby in the picture postcard bays of Agni, Koloura and San Stephanos, should you wish to venture a little further. Kassiopi is only 10-15 minutes away from Kalami and has many shops, restaurants, bars/clubs, beaches, and a pretty harbour area. Should you feel the need for something a bit livelier.

NEIGHBOURING BAYS OF
KOLOURA & AGNI

From Kalami you can both walk or drive to the beautiful sheltered harbour of Koloura where you will find many traditional fishing boats moored and an excellent fish taverna with a small isolated beach to its left hand side named Chochoulio.

Agni bay can be reached again via a footpath during the day from Kalami or by car from the main road, however most visitors to this bay generally arrive by boat. In the evening you can take one of the regular boats provided by the owners to one of their lovely tavernas who will then take you back to Kalami once you have dined this is an excursion not to be missed.
OTHER AREAS
SAN STEPHANOS can be found winding down the hillside from the NE coast road, nestling between Kalami and Kassiopi (also known as Aghios Stefanos and is not to be confused with the resort of same name on the West Coast). This area was once a sleepy fishing village and retains its relaxed feel though it has since become a quite secluded and prestigious resort favoured by many of the rich and famous. This is due to the fact that although it can be reached by road it is more accessible by boat.
It is another small resort well suited to those seeking a relaxing tranquil holiday and for couples seeking a romantic atmosphere with truly stunning scenery. An ideal place to unwind though you can explore the surrounding bays on foot or by boat if you feel like a little more exertion!!! Obviously those who also love sailing and walking will find this resort a small paradise in itself.

A chic but small low key villa resort with a pretty harbour area where you will find 2 sophisticated cocktail bars, 2 supermarkets, 4 waterside tavernas, a lovely gift shop, a tourist office and boat hire office.

There is a small beach to the left of the harbour where you will find parasols and sunbeds available for hire or you can walk to the next bay of Kerassia which is only accessible via road from San Stephanos or else by boat or on foot. Here again you will find sunbeds available and a single family run taverna and excellent swimming.

Avlaki beach is also nearby with its watersports, 2 tavernas and dinghy sailing school, an ideal visit being just a short drive/walk away between San Stephanos and Kassiopi. This is also the location of Dimitris Horseriding Stables and rides can be booked in advance upon request transport is provided.

KASSIOPI again once a sleepy fishing village has blossomed into a still small yet bustling resort with a strong emphasis on both families and couples. It is a nice place to visit for those seeking to do some shopping or to have a change of scene. Here you will find a pretty harbour from which boat trips and excursions can be taken surrounded by waterside cafes. There is a wide range of shops around the village square including 2 larger supermarkets than you will find in the smaller resorts and also a chemist, butcher, bakery and laundry etc.

There are many varied restaurants including Italian, Mexican, Chinese and of course excellent Greek tavernas to cater for every taste some of which are so good even the locals have to book in advance for a table. (We would strongly recommend ‘Little Italy’ food as the name suggests and ‘Yiannis’ is also superb serving exquisite Greek food alfresco by the sea.(you can arrange for a birthday or celebration cake upon request). There are several bars and a couple of clubs available late evening should anyone feel the need for a little more life, taxis are of course available from the square which can often be shared. The resort is certainly lively in the evening but not by any means rowdy. It has the perfect balance for those seeking a little more entertainment but whom are definitely not interested in finding an abundance of night clubs and loud music.

Aside from the shops and nightlife there are 3 beaches to be found with excellent watersports available including windsurfing and a dive centre.

KOMMENO - Picturesque Kommeno is located about 10km North of Corfu Town and its central location allows for easy access to the rest of the island. You will find your accommodation set within the olive groves and lush countryside overlooking Kommeno Bay. This upmarket suburb is a peaceful and tranquil area perfect for those wanting to unwind yet with the local tavernas, beaches, and shops all just a short walk or drive away, not to mention the shops in Corfu Town a short taxi / bus ride away. This is a one of the most sought after areas of the island.

Aside from Corfu Town and Kommeno itself you will find the resorts of Gouvia and Dassia nearby; two slightly livelier resorts with an abundance of restaurants, shops and even a modest amount of nightlife should you feel like having an alternative to a quiet night in after all that unwinding.

The beach at Kommeno is on a protected bay popular with visiting boats, it is tucked into a peninsular between Gouvia and Dassia and is the location of choice for one of the most exclusive hotels on the island ‘The Grecotel Corfu Imperial’. It has clear waters and rock bathing backed by forested hills. A truly beautiful spot with its own tiny church, that of Ipapanties. The nearby Dassia beach is exceptionally calm and flat being a superb place to swim and practice quality water sports whilst enjoying beach taverna life.

CORFU TOWN is a wonderful place to visit having plenty to see and do with its Italianate arcades, Venetian fortress and cobbled alleys. It boasts everything from international boutiques to traditional craft and jewellery shops that line the streets and stay open late into the evening. Aside from shopping you can watch an afternoon of cricket sipping coffee from below the arches of the Liston Arcade or stroll around the square and admire the medieval churches and forts. You will find many excellent and varying restaurants and sophisticated cafes and bars to add to the experience.

It has been influenced over many centuries by various cultures Byzantine, Venetian, French British and of course modern Greek. You can shop as the Greeks do in San Rocco Square or haggle in the Jewish quarter, stroll along the French elegance of Kapodistriou or barge the crowded modern market, whatever you do Corfu Town is not to be missed.
